Many students in English classes have learned that they can get by without doing the reading
carefully, either by outright cheating on tests or by looking up answers to the questions on the test.
Why is that a bad idea?
The class teaches you to think about what you are reading, so you won't find simple
answers to simple questions anywhere in the course
In this course, the story details are not as important as the thinking that starts with those
details. Students cannot think deeply about something they have not read.
If students have not done the reading, they cannot make intelligent and interesting
contributions to class discussions.
