When light enters the atmosphere, the light is scattered; this means that the light changes its direction. This happens when light collides with the particles of the atmosphere. Now, the light is made from a range of colours and it turns out the smaller the wavelength of the colour the easier for this color is to scatter; since the blue hue has smaller wavelength it is scattered more and that's why the sky is blue.
