So I have 1/2 and I have to equal it to 5, but it has to be 1/2 to the power of something to equal 5.

5 = .5^x
Taking logs of both sides
log (5) = x * log (.5)
x = log (5) / log (.5)
x = 0.69897000434 / -.30102999566
x = - 2.32192809493

.5^- 2.32192809493 = 5
