Work is Force x Distance. 
This means the amount of work accomplished is determined by how much progress you have made by force and distance, not by time. 
For example, if I were to push a cart with 25n and it would go 15 ft, I'd have to multiply 25 by 15 to get the amount of work I did.
25 x 15 = 375. 
The work I have done is 375J.
