Descriptive wording and imagery allows the readers to engage their senses when reading a story.

Hello!

The appropriate term is "sensory details." This simply means that a story includes details that appeal to the senses (smell, hearing, sight, taste, feel). These details allow the reader to see, smell, hear, feel, and taste what's going on in the story.
