-- "constant velocity"   ===>    acceleration is 0 .

-- acceleration=0   ===>   forces are balanced

-- balanced forces   ===>  (friction) + (force you exert)  =  0

                                           (friction) = -(force you exert)

                        They have equal magnitude and opposite direction.
